● Natures Calling

My artwork is an exploration of the relationship between humans and the environment in Florida. Specifically, I am interested in the impact of modern-day entertainment and the destruction of wildlife for the sake of beauty. Growing up in Florida, I witnessed firsthand the divide between constructed areas and natural habitats. As I grew older, I observed the areas animals once called home being developed into commercial spaces.

Through my research, I discovered a beauty in animals that others often overlook. This inspired me to develop my thesis work around the idea of romanticizing the beauty in what is commonly seen as ugly. My paintings challenge society's perceptions of what is beautiful and emphasize the importance of preserving and protecting our environment.

In addition to my subject matter, my approach to framing has also garnered attention. I experiment with unconventional methods, such as using raw canvas nailed to stretcher bars or simple paneling, to evoke emotional responses from viewers. After developing works that were research-oriented around Florida and its environmental impact, my focus shifted from romanticizing the ugly truth to romanticizing the ugly itself. This interest change has prompted me to explore different styles and play with contrasting light to achieve my artistic vision
